Heat Tolerant Veg

No matter where you live, the weather is hotter and dryer than days gone by, posing new challenges as we navigate changing growing conditions. But that shouldn’t stop us from growing vegetables all year round. There are several things we gardeners can do to prepare for the inevitable hot weather and keep on growing veggies in the harshest of climates. Here are a few tips and tricks for growing veggies in the heat.

  • Consider planting greens, herbs, radishes, and brassicas in partial shade during the summer months

  • Water early in the morning to retain as much water as possible in your soil

  • Trim lower foliage to increase airflow from plants like tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, and beans

  • Plant heat-tolerant varieties that will set you up for success

Here are some of our favorite heat-tolerant veggies to try out this summer.
